Morning run

Enjoying the final days of summer (and still feeling our way through video, which is relatively new to us).

More recent footage— finally starting to figure out how to block the microphone from picking up so much wind:

First one can be found here.

Happy motoring.

This is just perfect— we’re all about what you see right here. A great car, a stunning-looking road— it doesn’t get much better than this, really.

Renault Mégane III RS 250

•September 16, 2010 • 4 Comments

Now here’s an undeniably hot Mégane RS 250. The lowered suspension and lightweight OZ Alleggeritas (not exactly pretty, but certainly respectably sporting for a street wheel) have something to do with that, no doubt. On looks alone, we could see this car giving the Scirocco R a run for its money (the critics appear to be split on it vis-à-vis the Focus RS). Naturally, all three cars are nothing but a pipe dream here in the States, given that we get none of them— not a single one. Boo.

We’ll just have to settle for living vicariously through the usual roundup of British motoring journalists.

Can anyone tell us what road in Spain this is?

Your daily weirdness awesomeness: Volkswagen Porsche B32

•September 16, 2010 • 2 Comments

Yet another historical example of VW and Porsche being in bed together. And, unless one is a Porsche elitist purist, what’s not to like about that?

The Porsche-branded B32 van you see above occurred back in the mid-1980’s, when the automaker from Stuttgart was racing its awesome Group B 959 in the Paris to Dakar Rally and the factory found itself in need of a support vehicle. Using a Volkswagen Type 2 Transporter (Vanagon) as a platform, the van was modified to accommodate the 3.2-liter flat-6 engine from the Porsche 911 Carrera. The air-cooled powerplant was good for 230 hp and a top speed in excess of 130 mph. It obviously offered significantly more motivation than the largest VW factory engine at the time, a water-cooled inline-5, though testing its limits was likely akin to expressing a death wish. Porsche built up to eleven examples of the “B32” complete with upgraded suspension, brakes, and leather interiors (source).

This type of thing isn’t exactly unusual among tuners and privateers with a wacky sense of humor, but what we do find especially tantalizing about the B32 is that it was commissioned by Porsche themselves.

On the prowl. Few modern cars have a front end design as compelling as the 159’s, we must say.

And for good reason— it’s a lovely little video. The car? Sublime. As we’ve said in the past, the E9 is just one of those cars you’d love to own and one day see passed down to your kids, and eventually from your kids to theirs. ‘Timeless’ is the word that best comes to mind.

Two Alpina-shod beauties on BaT

•September 13, 2010 • 3 Comments

We saw this Malaga M2 – a 2002 with an S14 as its beating heart – on BaT last week and immediately fell in love. While the consensus in the comments seems to be that the asking price is high, there’s no question that the car itself is a stunner.

Then we saw this E9 and promptly had our socks knocked off:
