In praise of the MkII Golf GTI

Speaking of old school and stripped-down, here’s another favorite of this blog. The modern V and VI notwithstanding, the II was probably the high water mark in the little GTI’s storied history. Here is our love song. Gratuitous? Mais non. Enjoy.

Needell & co. sing the MkII’s praises. Jonny Smith continues to be a dreadful presenter, but seeing a mint, forest green MkII being tossed around the corners of a tight and twisty handling circuit make these clips worth watching (just turn off the sound whenever Smith opens his mouth).
