What parts of Europe apparently look like right now:
Stay safe, folks in Europe.

Prior to leaving for Las Vegas, I did some research and found that Hertz was offering Mustang GTs as part of their “Adrenaline Collection” with unlimited mileage. The plan was to rent one and drive it to the Hoover Dam before continuing on to the Grand Canyon.
Ya, that didn’t happen.
So bright and early, my buddy Chris and I show up at Hertz, all excited to take out the Mustang, and the car wasn’t “ready”. Great. With no other Adrenaline Collection cars available, my half-Calabrian mind immediately began spiraling downwards into despair, calculating just how quickly my luck in Vegas had already run out – two days into my trip. Then I hear, ‘we can give you the Corvette’. Amazing! The Hertz rep kindly upgraded us to their special edition, yellow with black stripe Corvette ZHZ, honoring the unlimited mileage and price on our original reservation and waiving the extra driver charge for good measure.
While not a perfect review by any means – some of the commentary is eyeroll-inducing – it’s kind of refreshing to hear the point of view of someone other than jaded auto-journo types who have seen and driven every new thing with four wheels under the sun. You typically don’t hear a lot of high praise for the “entry level” Aston because motoring hacks find it to be slower than X or not as good as Y, but we always found that to be fairly inane— this is still a pretty special car measured by any yardstick. These two seem to agree.
Nice excuse to get these two cars together and have a photoshoot. Images by the always good Jan Baedeker.
Reader Mike sent in these photos of cars he has photographed in profile in Southern California, all using a Mamiya medium format camera on Fuji film. Sounds good to us.
Here are a few of our favorites. Thanks for sharing, Mike!

Regardless of what happens to Saab, that perennially embattled Swedish automaker, we will always have the indelible memory of its cool, quirky, and altogether desirable cars. Just the other day we were floored as we walked by a street-parked 9000 Aero (sadly not pictured here). Black-on-black and clad with the signature 16″ Ronal ‘Super Aero’ gunmetal wheels, it looked every inch the business and instantly made us want one, reports of torque steer be damned.
Saab still has it. And with any luck, it will continue to make such memorable cars in this brave new automotive world that it faces. Godspeed.
