So hot- not much more to say, really.

E30 M3

•February 4, 2010 • 2 Comments

Easily one of our top two, three most lusted after cars [that we estimate to be reasonably within our reach]. Easily. Here’s a rather sharp-looking example wearing what we think are 16″ Alpina B6 wheels with exposed lugs. Good call- we’re no fans of the lug caps that typically plague these and later Alpina wheels. The dark, uncovered centers are a great look, and the race studs/nuts (though a small touch) mean business. We’d go clear over yellow high beams, though.

Short wheelbase 911s

Porsche expert John Glynn has a nice writeup and images of the two short wheelbase (SWB) beauties that you see here. Go check it out over at his site, if early P-cars tickle your fancy (certainly, they do ours).

We have never really loved the 2002 Touring

•February 4, 2010 • 5 Comments

To put it diplomatically, we always thought it looked sort of.. unique, at best; awkward, at worst. But – and while we must say we still prefer the coupé – we can say without hesitation that this is probably the nicest 02 Touring we have seen yet- just really nicely done.

See a short clip here (in German).

We like to tease

So here’s a teaser of what’s up ahead later this week– and what a hell of a tease it is. Watch this space!

The perfect MX-5

•February 3, 2010 • 1 Comment

This car doesn’t get much run on our site because, fairly or unfairly, there are ostensibly cooler and more desirable machines to lust after (some of which can periodically appear tantalizingly within reach). The deck appears perennially stacked against this scrappy underdog, with models from blue chip European marques like Porsche, Alfa, and BMW (among others) constantly vying for our attention and, one of these days, our dollars.

But make no mistake- we have a tremendous amount of respect and admiration for these vehicles (and we’re not the only ones). We were discussing amongst ourselves how this example pretty much looks like the perfect example of how we like them (and our cars in general) to be. From the hardtop to increase structural rigidity, to the combo of meaty rubber and unfussy lightweight wheels (Enkei RP-F1s?), to the just-right stance, it looks like it was born to dive deep into every corner with a relish matched by few other cars at this price point.

Edit: more here (hat tip to Justin)

Iconic '80s supercars mix it up in the mountains

•February 3, 2010 • 1 Comment

Very good clip- stellar ear as well as eye candy. The F40 is straight-up nasty. It crackles and pops like nobody’s business, while the P-car (nice as it is) sounds downright tame in comparison.

(En français, although the cars do most of the talking.)

Eye candy: Audi Quattro

As great as Audi continues to be today, looking at this, one sort of wishes they had stayed frozen in time, exactly as seen here– the very definition of Teutonic ’80s perfection.

2010 Golf Rs in the snow

•February 2, 2010 • Comments Off on 2010 Golf Rs in the snow

VWs old and new are near and dear to our hearts, and this one is no exception. There is some initial sticker shock (estimated base price if it were to ever come Stateside: thirty four thousand simoleons), but after considering the scant few alternatives in this decidedly niche space (premium four-door, AWD hot hatchbacks of European origin), as well as the fact that it is the Audi S3’s mechanical twin, the asking price starts to seem more sane- even reasonable.

Will we ever see one? And namely (for us, anyway), will we get the four-door? Question marks abound.

We won’t be getting these sculpted Euro-spec buckets, that’s for sure.

You may as well ogle the equally unattainable Scirocco R also, as long as you’re at it.

They were onto a good thing from very early on (the whole ‘practical daily driver that sees double duty as a weekend track toy’ thing).
