Big bumpers? Yes— and?

•January 6, 2011 • 4 Comments

Have we been guilty of being big bumper snobs when it comes to 911s? Yes. Can we see ourselves quickly getting over it, especially in light of jaw-dropping examples such as the one below? Oh hell yes.

This might be the most perfect stance we’ve ever seen on any classic 911.

We don’t expect to be in the market for an SUV for quite awhile..

..if ever. But if we were, we know what would be at the top of our short – very short – list.

On. The. Money.

Yes, we think the Range Rover Classic has aged wonderfully, and looks every bit as good now as it did then, if not better.

Honorable mentions?

FJ60 FJ62 Toyota Landcruiser (1988-1990). What a handsome, genteel truck that was— in retrospect, more than it was probably given credit for back at the time.

Second generation Land Rover Range Rover (1994-2001). Probably a decent pick-up now.

Indisputably badass, but ultimately too expensive, hardcore, and impractical for us: Land Rover Defender 110 (1993 only in USDM; extremely rare). Hands down our money-no-object pick, though.

Our favorite 'Youtubes' of 2010

•December 31, 2010 • 3 Comments

We missed plenty, we’re sure, so here’s just a small selection of ‘tubes we enjoyed viewing in 2010. Also, to keep this from getting out of hand, we have for the most part tried to limit this to videos that have actually turned up this year, not ones that have been kicking around for longer but have only come up on our radar recently.

A couple of them we are posting for the first time (although obviously you may have already seen them elsewhere).

Happy new year!

Hot Opel Ascona

•December 30, 2010 • Comments Off on Hot Opel Ascona

More goodness from across the pond (and, uh, the English Channel).

“Hot Opel” are words we don’t think we’ve ever previously uttered, but we’d be all over this lush oldtimer. First time for everything? Ja, natürlich.

Caged, black-on-black Ferrari F355 Challenge is the very definition of "sex on wheels"

•December 30, 2010 • 5 Comments

It also takes a sledgehammer to any pretense of subtlety (although that was sort of the whole point). The full list of modifications, vis-à-vis the Berlinetta:

  • Competition clutch
  • Competition steering wheel
  • Lightweight exhaust
  • Rollcage
  • Racing seats
  • Safety harnesses
  • Fire extinguisher
  • Engine cutoff switch
  • Carbon fiber rear wing
  • Upgraded 14″ Brembo brakes
  • 18″ Speedline wheels
  • Pirelli racing slicks
  • Solid suspension bushings and competition springs
  • Rear brake cooling ducts
  • Challenge black rear grille

Europa in Japan

So weird, this car. And also so utterly fantastic. This is another one of those designs that have only grown on us with time— its oddball nature is the very source of its appeal.

Tough. Very, very tough.

•December 29, 2010 • 3 Comments

Gosh this looks good. We’re not so sure we could rock the gold AMG Penta wheels (even if they are period-correct), but the rest of the car is totally on point— probably the toughest-looking W123 we’ve ever seen, wagon or otherwise.

The closest the US ever got to the top-of-the-line 280TE was the neutered 280CE, by the way. Which should surprise nobody.

RS4-look B6 Avant

•December 28, 2010 • 3 Comments

Audi never made a B6 RS4 Avant, but this one looks very convincing. It’s either a B7 disguised as a B6 (with custom work done to the tails, hatch, and so on), or a B6 with some very credible work done to the fender arches.

A worthy follow-up to this post.

The same car, if we’re not mistaken.
