Reader Laurent sent in these photos of his Citroën SM. The last image is from a meet with five other SMs and a Ligier JS2, later examples of which shared the same Maserati V6 as the SM. Thanks Laurent! What a beautiful car you have.

Assorted Porsche-centric grab bag of stuff we like
•September 19, 2011 • 8 Comments It’s another 911-heavy week (and as a reminder, grab bags can sometimes be lumpy and won’t always be a mixed bag, or anything close to— that’s just how it goes sometimes). If that doesn’t interest you, you would be well-advised to skip this one 🙂 And no, our love for these cars (in their multiple/various forms) knows no bounds.
Onward.

Sport Quattro in a partial state of undress
•September 16, 2011 • 6 CommentsWhat’s the political climate like in Morocco right now? Anyone know?
•September 15, 2011 • 3 CommentsBecause we might just have to hop a flight (which we probably would’ve done anyway, even before seeing this shot).
Wow.
Okay, we walk that back, sorta
•September 14, 2011 • 6 CommentsWhen we said you weren’t likely to find a third generation Prelude that hadn’t been abused or badly modified? These images make us eat those words. What a supremely tossable-looking little car— looks like terrific, inexpensive fun. Kudos to the owner for doing right by these cars— wish we came across more of this sort of thing.
History lesson: the first high performance driving school
•September 13, 2011 • Comments Off on History lesson: the first high performance driving school
How would you like erstwhile Formula One driver and 24 Heures du Mans winner Carroll Shelby to be your chief instructor? Or Pete Brock (of Brock Racing Enterprises fame) to be your event registrar? Well before your local NASA or CCA chapter was organizing track days, there was this, the Carroll Shelby School of High Performance Driving.
Retiring from racing in 1961, he decided to open a Goodyear Racing Tire Distributorship and a driving school at a young Riverside International Raceway, called “Carroll Shelby School of High Performance Driving.” He also called upon his friend, Pete Brock, to manage to operation. This school later became the Bob Bondurant school in 1968 at a SoCal drag strip and small road course called Orange County Raceway. When the Ontario Motor Speedway in California was built the school was moved to a dedicated road race/oval track. However, when Ontario was to be demolished after several years, the school was moved to its present location in Phoenix, Arizona.

Look Ma, no helmets!

•September 12, 2011 • 4 CommentsThis is why we’re fans of Joe Biden. Quoth:
My brother has one of those 556-hp [CTS-V] Cadillacs with a manual. He brought it down for me to eat my heart out. So I got in. I have a driveway that’s about 1700 feet long. I knew the Secret Service wouldn’t let me drive it outside. So I jumped on that sucker and laid rubber. A great feeling. That thing could probably beat my Corvette.

(Not actually Biden, his brother’s car, or the driveway of Number One Observatory Circle)
