Very bittersweet in light of these times.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Trio of Martini Porsches

Which to choose, given your pick?

The mid-engined Cayman is probably the best drive, but also a thoroughly modern Porsche, the least rooted in Porsche lore. The 911 is the most iconic, going on almost fifty years and showing no signs of slowing. And the 356 is arguably the most venerated.

So hard, although you couldn’t go wrong with any one. And all look wonderful in Martini striping.

Nice video to go along with this post.

Pair of Mustangs going at it at the Six Hours of Spa

We’re self-professed Europhiles, sure, but these cars manage to be cool to us in a way that the Camaro (which, even post-canned makeover courtesy of Hollywood, continues to conjure up images of mullets, Ol’ Dixie, and all that that entails) does not. At least the Challenger had Vanishing Point.

It’s true: when it comes to ‘murican cars, please give us the Mustang and GT40 over the Camaro and Corvette (much as we admire the Vette). The Blue Oval definitely wins this one, decisively. And that’s not even counting the oodles of Euro-spec Escorts, Sierras, and Focuses that we never got over the years.

Another one (of more recent vintage, natch):

You can’t really picture a Camaro chasing down a Porsche.

Following on the heels of our Volvo lovefest.

Let’s hope the embattled manufacturer is able to find a buyer soon.

E36 M3, erm, saloon.

Quite frankly, if this had to be the only car we could own, we probably wouldn’t complain.

If you like this, you’ll also like this.

Nissan Figaro eye candy

Never expected to utter those words. Gorgeous photos by Carson Ting.

The Nissan Figaro is a small retro car manufactured by Nissan. The car was originally sold only in Japan. Despite this, the Nissan Figaro has become popular with owners in the UK and Ireland, given the popularity of second-hand Japanese import cars. Its appearance has a resemblance to the 1960s Datsun Fairlady models.

The Figaro was introduced at the 1989 Tokyo Motor Show under the slogan “Back to the Future”. It was built by a Nissan special projects group called Pike Factory, who also produced other niche automobiles such as the Be-1, Pao and S-Cargo. It was based on the K10 Nissan Micra aka March. Only four colours were available: Topaz Mist, Emerald Green, Pale Aqua and Lapis Grey. Each colour symbolised a season of the year. When the car was launched, Topaz Mist was the least popular colour. There were only 2,000 produced in Topaz Mist hence they have become increasingly rare.

The Figaro was equipped with leather seats, air conditioning, CD player and an open roof. It was designed by Shoji Takahashi, who won a design competition with the car (source).
