It’s strange, the more the ‘Internets’ go ape for the Ferrari 458, the stronger we’re drawn to… the Aston Martin Vantage? Apples and oranges, to be sure, and the otherworldly looks of the 458 are more likely to cause a sensation, but personally, we prefer the classical GT looks of the Aston.
Here, then, are three different versions of the ‘baby’ Aston for your viewing pleasure. Hey, one can always dream.
The V12, drop-dead gorgeous in this shade of red:
The V12 Vantage RS— before concept became reality:
Perhaps the hottest of them all, the V8 Vantage GT4. Slicks and motorsport-look wheels tend to have that effect:
And of course, let’s not forget this earlier paean.

Getting yet more mileage out of that line. But how could you not use it in this instance? We’re normally not even fans of the whole blacked-out look, but this— this is downright evil.
Michèle Mouton (one of the most successful female racing drivers in the history of motorsport), frequent co-pilot Françoise Conconi, and getaway vehicle Renault Alpine A110— these three would not be out of place on the pages of the impossible cool. Vive la France.

993 RSR conversion— yours now for a cool $45K. We never thought we’d dig the ducktail on a 993, but we have to say, we like it. Maybe even a lot.
But the most important common denominator between them is not their country of domicile or the automotive era that produced them, but the singular shapeliness of their derrieres. Two different looks, both so very right.

And everyone and their mother may be also, but in our minds, we don’t think this car – or our desire for one – will ever get old.

Turning back the clock to some classic Top Gear, and to when Lotus was under Bugatti’s purview (the automotive universe having undergone some major realignment since then, obviously). Tiff puts the then-new Elise S1 through its paces on some damp northern British B roads, followed by the requisite on-track evaluation. Sounds good to us.
Watching Tiff assemble the manual top makes us wonder which car’s is fussier, the S1’s or the Boxster Spyder’s.

As part of a piece on affordable enthusiast cars, the IEDEI blog has put up a picture of a GTV-6 that we’re having a hard time tearing our eyes away from. From the Ronals and the aggressive stance (the wheels perfectly filling in those arches), to the motorsport touches like the Plexiglas window vent and single headlight delete, to the wonderful greyish-sage green color (topped off by the de rigueur Quadrifoglio Verde), this just might be the most desire-inducing GTV-6 we have ever seen. Where do we sign up?
And of course, if you have yet to be sold on the car…
