Wonderful car. We only wish we saw more of these, given that they’re pretty uncommon (especially in the States— maybe less so on the Continent). Certainly, they’d have to be on anybody’s short list for an interesting, satisfying older driver- ours included.

Thanks for the photo, Erhardt!

Old car, old world photography

Lovely medium format photography, this. For all the amazing advances in digital imaging technology, nothing still beats the wonderful intangible qualities produced by a 6×6 camera and roll film.

A Hassy was used here, but a beat-up Rolleicord picked up for about $300 could have just as easily done this.

We don't love the car..

..but we do love the photo. This Nissan (whose natural habitat is the urban jungle) could not have been photographed more perfectly than against this backdrop of the looming metropolis. Love how the roundness of the taillights (looking like glowing embers) are repeated in the perfectly circular bokeh highlights of the distant city lights. Fine photography that goes beyond the typical fare.

Gotta be the nicest Bavaria we've ever laid eyes on

If we were ever on the fence about mud flaps, consider us converts. We’d like to think that this is pretty much exactly how we’d run ours, if we had one.

Dino in the wild

An old favorite. Would we? God, would we ever. No, it’s not the most impressive of Ferraris (in either sound or performance), and armchair enthusiasts will debate whether it should even be considered a Ferrari in the first place, but take one look at the low-slung, mid-engine coupe, and all that nitpicking suddenly starts to look very silly.

Jump to the 2:11 mark to fast-forward past the mindless chitchat:

This is the most amazing thing with five doors we have come across in awhile

Holden Commodore SS V Sportwagon (we think) in a brilliant metallic green finish, lowered on tough black powdercoated wheels and looking rather seriously badass. Bradley (he of the Automobiliac) noted once that Australia gets all the good stuff (considering it reaps the best of what Japan, Europe, as well as its own domestic market have to offer), and this stunning example certainly does nothing to alter that notion, at least for us. This (the HSV/GXP variants, anyway) is a car, after all, that routinely draws E39 M5 comparisons from the automotive cognoscenti, and was even (famously) said to have been benchmarked against that very BMW by GM themselves.

Oh, what might have been.

Volkswagen CC (“Comfort Coupe”)… on the track. And you know what? It doesn’t look half bad. But then again, the CC was never a bad-looking car— far from it.

Would we ever buy one? In a word, no. We could, however, be tempted – even very tempted – by a 4Motion CC wagon (à la the CLS wagon) with a DSG dual-clutch transmission (knowing all too well that a six-speed manual would never get green-lit) and either the throaty, narrow-angle VR6 (which we have a soft spot for, but whose best days are sadly far behind it) or the very fine, very capable, and eminently-tunable 2.0T. But the chances of a five-door Comfort Coupe ever happening (regardless of gearbox, or powerplant) are, well… we won’t be holding our breath, let’s just put it that way.
