Motoring Con Brio turns 1!

•October 1, 2010 • 20 Comments

We’re not “Web 2.0” types (shudder) — far from it. But we are car guys (not to mention what we might call driving guys), and we wanted to try our hand at sharing great content that we come across – content that inspires us – with like-minded folks. That was one year ago to this date. Over the course of the twelve months that followed, we have come to enjoy and derive satisfaction out of updating this space with stuff that we imagine others might also enjoy. And we’d like to thank all of you for taking part in it— by reading us, by linking back to us, by chiming in with all of your comments. Really, the pleasure of being able to connect with a kindred audience is what motivates us to keep this sucker going.

So, we’re going to ring in our inaugural anniversary (and the fall season) with this selection of autumnal shots that we’ve come across in our web travels— quite possibly the prettiest gallery we’ve ever assembled. We plan on doing some of this of our own these next couple of months (minus the 33 Stradale or 550 Spyder, regrettably). And if you’re tuning in from the northern hemisphere, you should, too.

Let us know about it. And happy motoring.

Car: Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GTA. Lensman: Julien Mahiels, practically our resident motorsport photographer. And you know what? Not without good reason, as you can plainly see.

More Spa 6 Heures awesomeness here.

Your daily weirdness: four-door E30 M3

•September 30, 2010 • 3 Comments

Love it or leave it? The Hartge wheels complete the ‘I didn’t come like this from the factory’ look.

Actually, we think it came out much, much nicer than the wagon conversion, which has been done a couple of times and whose photos you may have seen floating around (here, for example). We’re going to buck the conventional enthusiast wisdom of loving wagons on this one and say the E30 M3 Touring look does not work at all on these cars (on the standard E30, yes; on the spoilered and box-flared M3, no). But the four-door we could probably get behind.

We also like it better than another oddball we’ve had on here before, the RS2 saloon, a car for which the wagon look does work quite nicely (as is wont to be the case with Audis).

Different from us, for sure, but we’re really sort of loving big Citroëns these days, even the newer ones— this C6, for example. Certainly, we’d rather have one of these than its equivalent modern competitor from Audi, Mercedes-Benz, or BMW. They’re just a heck of a lot more, well, different. And that’s what draws us to them.

And here’s one that’s ‘moment of zen’-worthy (although Francophones will collectively roll their eyes, most likely):

Your daily hotness

Not something you see every day— a rally-prepped 308 GTB, built to FIA Group 4 historic rallying spec by Finnish firm Mäkelä Auto-Tuning. Looks properly tasty.

We know which one we'd take

Not that we don’t appreciate the other, but this decision took all of about two seconds— if even that.

GT showdown

•September 27, 2010 • Comments Off on GT showdown

R&T has posted up a really nice series recently, asking various racing drivers (Patrick Long, Tommy Milner, et al.) to comment on their race cars vis-à-vis their respective roadgoing versions after wringing out each at Utah’s Miller Motorsports Park. Some of these segments/cars are more interesting than others— with Flying Lizard’s Long driving it at the ragged edge, the GT3 in particular is a beautiful thing to watch.

No further commentary necessary, so let’s get right to it.
