Entertaining period footage of M3 versus 190E Cosworth

Looks like a great racetrack, presumably in France somewhere— anyone recognize it?

Gotta love the idea of a spirited track shootout held in a thick fog. The Merc can’t seem to shake the M3 off for the life of it.

  1. The 190E can’t catch a break.

  2. Hello,
the track shown in this video is Monthléry, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autodrome_de_Linas-Montlh%C3%A9ry
on this video, famous french racing driver Henri Pescarolo is driving the 190E (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henri_Pescarolo)
They say the 25-16 is clearly disadvantaged by its Pirelli P6 tyres on 15″ wheels against the 16″ Pirelli P700Z of the M3 Evolution.

  3. The track is Montlhéry Autodrome just south of Paris : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autodrome_de_Linas-Montlh%C3%A9ry

Very much a french equivalent of Millbrook proving ground.

And by the way, the driver of the Merc’ is Henri Pescarolo, who happens to have 4 “le Mans” overall victories to his name (3 of which on Matras in the 70’s)

  4. Thank you, guys 🙂

  5. These two cars were one of the greatest rivalries in automotive history in DTM competition.

The Merc looks very unsettled in the film, the BMW is so much more composed. The Mercedes driver is excellent.

Great film and the fog is a perfect setting.

  6. the M3 just looks so good tho…

  7. What’s the french word for TOUGE!

  8. I’d go with “sinueuse.”

That’s my kind of track- slow, bumpy and with significant chance for an off to destroy your car. Keeps things spicy.

  9. I love the M3, love it. But they are hard to find here in Brazil. On the other hand, good 2.3-16’s show up for sale periodically. I have been thinking of at least going to test out a nice one that’s for sale locally. Thanks for posting this.
