Friday grab bag

So, how did you all like the new format? Better, worse?

Seems like folks weren’t thrilled with the idea of delayed gratification at first but then started to come around to it 😉

  1. I still overwhelmingly prefer one giant blowout to a slow, constant trickle. Give me the frenzied orgy of Christmas, not the calm, measured, apportionment of Hanukkah. I enjoy the last two minutes of the Fourth of July fireworks show far more than the first 28…

I look forward to and treasure the Sunday night (or Monday morning) ritual of opening all my favorites in new tabs, appending the _b, and saving them to my hard drive. I spend 10, 20, sometimes 30 or more minutes on it, depending on how many supplemental googly rabbit holes I’m inspired to explore.

In some strange way, the daily dosage format almost reduces my practice to just feeling like one more email I have to answer immediately or else make a mental note to return to it later and accepting the risk of forgetting it forever.

Nevertheless, I really do appreciate all the time and effort which must go into the Grab Bags, and I am truly grateful for the gifts you provide for us, regardless of format or frequency.

Do what you like; I’ll like what you do either way…

    • I agree with what Steve said above, he couldn’t have put it any better. I’ll still come back even if it isn’t quite as arousing as it used to be!

    • “The daily dosage format almost reduces my practice to just feeling like one more email I have to answer immediately or else make a mental note to return to it later and accepting the risk of forgetting it forever.”

      Perfectly stated, Steve.

  2. What’s the green estate? I don’t think I’ve ever seen one in the UK.

One big hit a week works better for me too, thanks…

    • It’s a Holden Commodore SS V Sportwagon. Better move down under 😉

      • That’s a nice idea, but I’m fairly sure that the ex wife wouldn’t let me take the kids with me. 😉

I did a track day at Goodwood in an early Commodore (a pre-Holden/Vauxhall official import) with the 5.7 in it. It was the blown version, and was the most interesting car to pick from a friend’s dealership. He imports American cars and trucks to the UK, so by default most were automatic, and those which weren’t we’d already done track days in!

All went well until said friend parked the car in the pits and put the handbrake on. A combination of boiling brake fluid and thermal expansion shattered the rear discs, and the cost to ship those from Australia and a new set of rear tyres made it an expensive day out!

Stunning car though, so I’ll keep an eye open for one within these cold and snowy shores.

  3. That Lotus, is it a turbo?

  4. Sorry, Drew, but I’m still not liking the multi-part grab bag idea. Maybe it’s just me, but I just don’t have time to check out so many posts during the week.

  5. Everyday has started well this week thanks to the Daily posts! Keep it up!

  6. I like the multi-day grab-bag, but if you only post 10 pics and 6 of them are of the same car (Lotus Esprit in this case), those should be the only pictures in the grab bag. In other words, either it’s a true grab bag (random pics) or it’s a themed post where you’re highlighting one car/person/make.

  7. i prefer the weekly grab bag.
and how about making it easier to see large pictures by way of simple click instead of the existing url re-writing method .?

  8. Not related to the timing of the Grab Bag (I said my piece earlier this week), just wanted to say “thanks” for the E28 pic in the banner today!

    Jim
