Lovely. I can’t believe how fantastic a good design can make a wagon so sexy.

Not something I’ve seen *ever*. Is this a factory creation? Was it a one-off, or part of a series? Did it start as an E36 Touring that got converted, or an M3 sedan that became a wagon?

i believe this is an E36 (non-M3) Touring that got converted. i don’t think any were made by BMW M GmbH, one-off or otherwise.

bmw did wise up with the E46— but still not enough to put it into production.

OMG! I think my heart just stopped.
I wonder how many big buckets of cash it would take to liberate that E46 M3 Touring, and get it on the road?
It would probably require a few large buckets of the right connections at BMW and various government agencies too.
Based on the increased usability of the E36 and E90 M3 sedan variants, it was a pretty big enough miss on BMW’s part not to at least have an E46 M3 sedan.
A E46 M3 wagon would have been light-years cooler though. Pretty sure I would have been offering to sell body parts to afford one, if it had been available.

you can make a facsimile, but it’ll cost you, as you might expect:

Just to add, that was my car. Sold it a few months ago but if you have any questions, feel free to ask.
