Tempting, no?

We’ve always admired the Alfa Romeo Spider, but from afar. These, on the other hand, have us looking at them anew— as in, we can see ourselves in one someday. We don’t expect ownership would be a long-term affair, but once – just once – we’d like to go ahead and taste this.

They’re not very expensive (we think— cue to hit up eBay, Craigslist, and alfabb.com…… now), so we see very little downside (if any) to dipping our toe into brief ownership. Few cars would make finer summer transport.

Someday.

  1. My friend has 2 (1 nice driver, 1 parts car), but the driver doesn’t spend much more time on the road than the parts car! Same red as this one here, of course, just not show car condition.

I’ve driven it twice (once when it was actually running well), and it was every bit as much fun as I thought it would be. Not fast by today’s standards, of course, but that’s not the point. It’s raw, basic, unsophisticated smile-inducing fun in a way that my Boxster would consider below it’s German standards.

Tempting, but I’d never buy one. I know the true Alfisti out there will disagree, but I’d always be afraid it would break around the next corner.

  2. not in federalized form, those bumpers are just plain ugly.
dustin hoffman’s duetto in the graduate, yes.
