A step in the wrong direction…
Everyone can agree that the Chrysler Sebring is probably the ugliest car ever designed on earth. I mean we can talk day and night about cars should never have been produced, but I think it’s safe to say that the design team for the Sebring should be put out their misery.
I bet they are hired double agents engaged in corporate espionage by the Japs, hired guns to annihilate the once great Chrysler. Mission accomplished.
Although, I have to admit, the Big Three probably did a Count of Monte Cristo, and sent an Asian version of said design team to Toyota and Acura.
In the battle to destroy each other in what Jalopnik deems as ‘Carpocalypse,’ I think they are ganging up on Hyundai this year. Everything was off to good start with the Genesis and Genesis coupe, then all of a sudden, you see this monstrosity, the newly designed Sonata.
OK OK, the growing trend in design is following cab forward design starting with the Mercedes CLS, VW CC, and Audi A5 Sportback. But I’m not down with non-performance cars with low roof lines made to look ‘sporty.’ Like Jalopnik says, this car looks more inspired by the Camry than following the its own heritage, if there ever was any.
Personally, I think the 4th generation Hyundai EF Sonata is the best designed Sonata of all time. I just like higher roof lines. Although the design may be inspired as a ghetto version of the Jag, there’s something that’s aesthetically pleasing about it, if we are purely comparing it to all versions of the Sonata itself. I think a nice set of BBS rims, a decent suspension, and some big brakes on a manual tranny would make this car a hoot to drive around town. (sorry for getting off subject, I live in Korea)
I just hope that these Carpocalypse designers are either put out their misery or into locked up for life before they hit Germany and the rest of Europe, before they destroy all that is good in the machines that we love…
